An overcurrent trip during acceleration can involve the load, ramp demand, motor configuration, or an electrical fault. The trip's timing helps narrow the investigation, but it does not identify one universal fix. Preserve the fault record and compare the event with the drive's documented diagnostics.

What is happening?
Acceleration requires torque to change the speed of the connected inertia while also overcoming the load. Electrical defects and unsuitable configuration can produce superficially similar trips. The investigation should distinguish a normal torque demand that exceeds the application design from a fault that requires repair.
Check these five things

Record the precise fault code, speed, current, operating mode, and point in the acceleration ramp where the trip occurs.

Review recent mechanical changes, jams, brake-release behavior, and load conditions using the approved isolation procedure.

Compare motor nameplate data and the selected control mode with the commissioned parameter record.

Have qualified personnel inspect the motor and cable using the manufacturer's test procedure. Isolate equipment as required before electrical testing.

Assess ramp and drive-sizing requirements with the responsible engineer. Trial parameter changes only within reviewed equipment and process limits.
Worked example
A simulated high-inertia load trips near the start of a very short ramp. A longer approved ramp may reduce acceleration demand, but that observation alone would not clear a damaged cable or a brake that fails to release. Separate mechanical and electrical evidence is still required.
