A project file that opens successfully is not the same as a tested recovery package. The machine may also depend on firmware, libraries, HMI files, device parameters, licenses, and retained production data. Validate recoverability in an appropriate test environment before a failure makes the missing pieces urgent.

What is happening?
Recovery is a process involving compatible tools, target hardware, configuration, and verification. An uploaded controller project may not include every external dependency. A useful backup record identifies what was captured, the accepted revision, and the steps required to restore and validate operation.
Check these five things

Inventory the controller, HMI, drives, network devices, and external services required for operation.

Record software and firmware versions, dependencies, and approved configuration files.

Preserve the required parameter and operational data using supported export procedures.

Perform an authorized restore rehearsal on suitable spare or simulated equipment without disturbing production.

Document acceptance checks, gaps, ownership, and the location of the final recovery package.
Worked example
A PLC project restores correctly on a spare controller, but the HMI runtime and drive parameter file are missing. The rehearsal reveals that controller recovery alone does not restore the complete machine.

The mistake to avoid
Do not test restoration by downloading an unverified backup into an operating machine. Use an approved recovery-test environment and plan.
How to verify the fix
Show that the documented package supports the defined recovery scope, with remaining dependencies clearly assigned rather than assumed.
