More displayed digits or converter bits do not guarantee a more accurate measurement. Resolution describes distinguishable increments; accuracy concerns agreement with the true quantity under specified conditions.

What is happening?
Offset, gain error, noise, reference stability, sensor error, and environmental effects contribute to the complete measurement uncertainty. A fine numerical step can coexist with a larger systematic error.
Check these five things

Read both resolution and accuracy specifications.

Identify range, temperature, and calibration conditions.

Include sensor and signal-conditioning contributions.

Compare with a suitable reference at multiple points.

Choose display precision that reflects useful information.
Worked example
A teaching measurement displays 25.001 while its qualified uncertainty is much larger than 0.001. The extra digits may help observe trends, but they do not justify claiming that the absolute value is known to that final digit.

The mistake to avoid
Rounding the display can improve readability but cannot repair calibration error. Likewise, upgrading converter bits alone may leave the dominant sensor error unchanged.
How to verify the fix
Report reference comparisons and relevant operating conditions. State the useful measurement uncertainty separately from display format and raw converter resolution.
