A sensor that detects a hand or cardboard box may still miss a clear bottle. Transparent objects change the optical signal differently from opaque ones. Select and validate the sensing arrangement for the actual container, contents, and production variation.

What is happening?
Clear-object detection depends on the sensor's intended technology and optical margin. Container walls, liquid, labels, shape, and alignment can change the received signal. A generic sensitivity adjustment cannot guarantee that an opaque-object sensor is suitable for a transparent target.
Check these five things

Confirm whether the sensor model is specified for the transparent-object application.

Collect representative empty, filled, labeled, unlabeled, and visually variable containers as applicable.

Check reflector requirements, alignment, distances, and contamination conditions against the manual.

Follow the supported teach procedure using the actual installed arrangement.

Validate detection across the approved speed, position, and product range without relying on one sample.
Worked example
An opaque test card produces a strong switch response, while an unlabeled clear bottle produces only a small optical change. Passing the card test establishes basic operation but not adequate margin for the bottle.

The mistake to avoid
