Transfer behavior depends on the controller, firmware, programming tool, and changed object. Some edits are supported during execution; others require interruption or initialization. Retained data and hardware configuration need explicit review, especially when a local project may be older than the running system.

Worked example
A local project contains a corrected routine but an older hardware configuration. A broad download may transfer more than the routine the technician intended to fix. A comparison of changed objects exposes that risk before the controller is altered.

The mistake to avoid

Save the accepted final revision and confirm machine recovery, relevant data, communications, and functional tests match the change plan.
